Brule Sporting Clays

What is Sporting Clays?
Sporting clays is a shotgun shooting game in which clay pigeons are presented to the gunner in ways that mirror the flight pattern of game birds, or occasionally rabbits, in their natural habitats. The shooting grounds are laid out in stations, with each station representing one type of bird or a combination of game; a rabbit and a grouse, for example. At each station, clay pigeons are thrown in pairs or singly. A course consists of several different stations, with a total of 50 or 100 targets. Sometimes birds from the same traps may be shot from different positions, so the gunner sees the same target from entirely different angles, which creates entirely new shooting presentation. With variations in trap position, trap speed, shooting position, and flight paths of different types of target size, targets can come through the trees, straight down, over your head, quartering, going away, left to right, right to left, and in any path a real bird might choose. It's a great way to prepare for bird season!

Here at Brule Sporting Clays, shooters walk a half-mile course, stopping at shooting stations designed to reproduce natural hunting situations. Road Reaction, 60' Tower, Grouchy Grouse, Duck Pond and over 50 separate shooting fields are ready for the first time shooter and the competitor. Guns, ammo, instruction, food and beverages are available at the clubhouse. Shooting every day 9:00 - 5:00, starting in late May and running through late September. Walk-ins are welcome, reservations appreciated.

"I truly want to express my appreciation for the staff: target setters and especially the trappers. I travel all over the world shouting and shooting - nowhere surpasses your team as genuine and lovable people (especially the girls), even the lady who gave me such a hard time about my losing 3 meal cards. It is rare to have the warmth and good fellowship. People were genuinely happy when someone did well (except me who really was offended by those who beat me). Prices were right. I am a certified target setter and I applaud those targets. Key is: were they all hittable? and they were. Love you all - you made my summer..." ~ Doc the Humble

Golfing

Ski Brule staff will arrange tee times at the challenging 18-hole championship George Young Golf Course located on Chicaugon Lake. Or, you may want the tradition of fast, well-trapped greens at the Iron River Country Club located off of M-189. Both courses are within a 15-minute drive of Ski Brule Resort.

Canoe, Raft & Tube At Ski Brule

Ski Brule offers a variety of water terrain from waters that rush around your raft rolling and bobbing you down the river to water terrain where the only sound is the intermittent swish of your paddle. Ski Brule rents rafts, tubes and canoes for trips on the Brule River. An abundant variety of wildlife will be found on the 47 miles of the Brule River.

Hunting & Fishing

The combination of Northern Wisconsin and Upper Michigan wilderness, lodging and amenities available at Ski Brule Resort will provide a unique hunting experience that cannot be found anywhere else in the Midwest . More whitetail deer have been taken from Iron County forests that qualify as Boone or Crockett entries than any other county in Michigan. If your sport is secluded fly fishing or lake fishing, you are never further than 6 miles from one of Iron County 's 2,175 lakes or 902 miles of streams.

Iron County Additional Points of Interest

Iron County offers many things to do including: Iron County Museum, LeBlanc Art Museum, Pentoga Hiking Trail, Indian Burial Grounds, Pentoga Park, Bewabic State Park, Chicaugon Falls, Hemlock Rapids, Horse Race Rapids, Golf, Split Rock, Harbour House Heritage Center.
